3 Simple Make Up Applications
Pure & Simple
Description: Fresh, youthful and perfect for daytime.
Suitability: Fresh and light for a youthful, yet stunning, look, this is perfect for
everyone, from the everyday girl to the more mature or even businesswomen.
Step-by-step: Apply a foundation with a foundation brush to achieve a smooth sheer finish. Then use a very light wash of a blue cover the eyelids using a large flat
eyeshadow brush. Also apply a light sweep of yellow under the eye using a small, flat eyeshadow brush. Finish off the eyes with white eyeliner on the inner rim (along the water line). Use a blush brush to swirl on a peachy toned blush on to the cheeks, finishing off the look with some pink lip gloss. No mascara is the final key.
Trade secret: The white eyeliner helps freshen up the eyes and makes them look
clearer. It also helps to make the eyes appear bigger.
Dark & Stormy
Description: Moody and sultry.
Suitability: It suits people with fair to medium skin tones and all hair colours. It is rich in wintery tones so it can be pulled off as a moody daytime look or as something sultry for the evening.
Step-by-step: Start with a liquid foundation base of two to three coats applied with a
foundation brush in a sweeping motion. Wait for each layer to dry before applying the next. Powder the T-zone only with a powder/pressed foundation with a large powder brush. Apply a dark maroon powder blush to the cheeks in and upward motion, towards the ear. Then apply brown eyeshadow on the lids, taking it quite high up using a flat eyeshadow brush. Blend under the brow bone with dark yellow eyeshadow. Using mascara, apply three to four coats to lashes. Apply a plum coloured lipstick with a wide lip brush. For a moodier look, apply loads of black eyeliner to the inner rim (water line) of the eye and add a thick sweep of dark grey eyeshadow under the eye along the lash line, using a tapered shadow brush.
Trade Secret: When using dark shadows, apply a fine layer of translucent or white powder under the eyes to catch any eyeshadow fall out. Then, using a large fan-shaped brush, sweep the powder off in an outwards motion. This removes all the powder as well as any dark shadow that may have dropped during application.
Happy brows-ing
Description: Defined brows, smoky eyes and a nude lip.
Suitability: It perfectly suits people who have large, round eyes or almond-shaped eyes and also compliments any hair colour. It is perfect for the evening. However, the look can make small eyes appear smaller, or deep set eyes appear more deep set, so it is not usually a good idea for them.
Step-by-step: For this look, start with the eyes before applying foundation. Apply a light dusting of translucent powder on the eyelids with a large flat eyeshadow brush as this will help with blending. Using the same brush, apply a soft wash of black eyeshadow to the whole lid, working all the way up to the brow bone and extending out to the edge of the eye. Using a small, rounded brush apply the same colour under the eye in the outer corners. Then, using a blending brush, apply a highlighter colour of your choice, just under the brow on the brow bone. Apply black pencil to the
inner rim of the eye. Using a make-up remover wipe away any black shadow that has dropped onto the cheeks and below the eye. Then apply two layers of liquid foundation setting with a powder pressed foundation using a large make-up brush. Using an angled brush, darken and thicken the eyebrows with a dark brown shadow.
Apply heaps of mascara to the upper and lower lashes to complete your eyes. For the cheeks, use a blush brush under the cheek bone apply a peachy toned blush. Finish of the lips with a nude coloured lipstick. Viola! You now have the perfect combination of smoky eyes and nude lips.
Trade secret: To create the perfect brow shape, imagine a line from the nostril up to the brows, this is where brows should start, then imagine a line from the nostril on an angle past the pupil and upwards – this will be the highest point of the brow arch. Now look from the nostril to the outer corner of the eye as this is where the brow should end.
