Eyelash and Eyebrow Treatments
Guidelines in basic eyelash and eyebrow treatments
Before beginning the treatments, it is important to determine the client’s characteristics. Skin, hair and eye colour each have some impact on choice of tint colours.
Tint Colours: Black, brown, light brown, blue/black and grey (graphite).
- Eyelashes:
Generally, blue/black is the darkest for eyelashes and will give better results. - Eyebrows:
Light brown and brown are usually used for eyebrows.
Set up the eyelash- and eyebrow-treatment equipment needed:
- Cotton pads
- Scissors
- Tint brush
- Eyebrow comb
- Cotton tips
- Tissues
- Tinting papers
- Tinting dish with two compartments
- Rinsing dish
- Tweezers
- Eye makeup remover (oil free)
- Mirror
- Alcohol wipes
- Peroxide
- Tint colour
- Vaseline (petroleum jelly)
Effects and benefits of eyelash tinting.
- It darkens and enhances the appearance.
- Makes the eyelashes appear thicker.
- You can swim without losing colour (however the colour will fade slowly).
- Unlike mascara, tint does not run.
- Clients who have allergies to mascara will benefit more with tinting.
Procedure for eyelash tinting.
- Cleanse the eyes with oil-free make up remover.
- Apply Vaseline to tint paper pads and underneath the client’s eyelashes.
- Ask the client to look up and gently place the paper pads under the bottom of the lashes; ask the client to keep their eyes closed.
- Apply Vaseline on the eyelids just above the top eye lashes.
- Mix 1cm of tint to 4 drops of peroxide and apply to lashes with a tint brush.
- Leave on for 10 – 15 minutes.
- Remove excess tint with wet cotton pads.
- Remove pads under eyes and rinse with cold water.
- Make sure tint is all removed before asking client to open their eyes.

- Frames the face.
- Defines the correct shape
- Enhances the appearance of fine, sparse eyebrows
- Grey hairs can be tinted and well blended easily.
- Used when you change your hair colour.
- You do not have to wear eyebrow makeup.
Procedure for eyebrow tinting.
- Cleanse the eye and brows with oil-free makeup remover.
- Apply Vaseline around the skin of the eyebrows – avoid the hairs.
- Mix ½ cm of tint with 2 drops of peroxide.
- Apply tint lightly against the hair growth.
- Leave on for 5 – 10 minutes.
- Remove with wet cotton pads.
Set up the eyebrow-shaping equipment needed:
- Tweezers
- Scissors
- Small spatula
- Eyebrow brush
- Eye makeup remover
- Pre-wax lotion
- After-wax lotion
- Tissues
- Wax
- Soothing cream or gel
- Cotton pads

- Gives a neat and tidy appearance.
- Defines the face.
- Forms a frame for the face.
- Accentuates the eye area.
Procedure for shaping eyebrows.
- Cleanse the eye area to remove any makeup.
- Wipe the brow with antiseptic pre-wax lotion.
- Brush hairs into shape.
- Always test wax temperature first.
- Remove hairs in the centre, then underneath, following the natural line.
- Tweeze any remaining hairs.
- Only apply wax on the upper part of the eyebrows if the hair is excessive and growing out beyond the natural shape.
- Apply after-wax soothing lotion and cream to reduce redness and to calm the
skin.
